Thicker than Blood/I Am What I Am Because of My Fam

An evening showcasing young writers from Camden and Lambeth brought to you by Tosh and Freddy.

Organised by Small Green Shoots and local youth organisation WISDM and Brixton’s Raw Material, this event at the Queen’s Crescent Community Centre was something special. We hear from the youth organisers and poets running the project and from the performers themselves.

Trying to Keep Sane - A Poem by Martin Lim

Trying to keep sane,
Don’t want to wane again,
Feeling like a trapped soul,
Jumping deeper into the hole,
Feeling experimentally challenged,
Counting the days I’ve mismanaged,
Hiding the light under a bowl.

I don’t want to think I’ve suffered in vain,
Through years of loneliness and pain,
Because time will kill me in the end,
If I don’t let go of all that I pretend /to be,
And realise what I ought to be,
In the arms of some sympathetic company
